New Holland Sponsors the Rio+20 Summit United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development

New Holland has confirmed its commitment to the environment with its sponsorship of the Rio+20 Summit which took place between 13-22 June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

This summit brought together the key stakeholders in a series of high level events with the objective of securing renewed political commitment for sustainable development, assessing the progress to date and the remaining gaps in the implementation of the outcomes of the major summits on sustainable development, and addressing new and emerging challenges.

Organised jointly by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Convention for Biodiversity (CBD), it celebrated the progress made since first Rio Summit held 20 years ago in 1992.

Clean Energy Leader strategy at the heart of international agricultural sustainability

 During the event, key themes were discussed including the business of, and investment in enhancing biodiversity, reducing desertification, land management and combating climate change.

Particular emphasis was placed on the adaption and the need to create businesses opportunities together with mitigation strategies and the urgent requirement to develop energy efficiencies and new sources of power.

These are some of the cornerstones of the New Holland Clean Energy Leader strategy which places biomass, farmers generating their own energy from energy crops and waste products, carbon footprint monitoring together with the NH2™ hydrogen powered tractor within the Energy Independent farm concept, at the heart of New Holland’s product development strategy, and are powerful working examples of the aforementioned concepts.
